Roy
In the spring of 1996, I placed an order for twelve Buff Orpington chicks. The babies arrived in great shape - all yellow, fluffy and cheepie. As they grew, it became apparent that one chick was different. After only a month it was clear that "Roy" was indeed a special chicken. He turned out to be a golden Polish. I was so impressed with his appearance, attitude and his durability I decided to sculpt him. To do this I needed to catch him, which turned out to be no easy fete. He was fast - very fast - and had better moves than any professional athlete I'd ever seen. As I watched him go "lickety split" down the road - leaving me eating his dust - I thought to myself - if Colorado had a road runner, "Roy" would be it. I did catch Roy, but I had to get up at 4:00 the next morning to do it! I went to the chicken house before sun rise and snatched him off the roost while he was sleeping, because I knew from past experience that if Roy is up and running, I don't stand a chance!
