Hen Pecked

Tinker was an old mare who came to live on our farm in late December of 1995. She was suffering from "founder" and walking - even standing - was very painful for her. Consequently, she spent most of her time lying down. Part of her treatment included manadatory walks three times a day. Every time I went to the barn to take Tinker for her walk there was a chicken with her. Sometimes the chicken would be on her neck, sometimes on her back, sometimes on her rump, but always there and always the same chicken. As the weeks passed, the old mare got better and better until finally she was fully recovered. I was so touched by the friendship that had developed between these two animals I created the sculpture titled "Hen Pecked."
